Prominent Egyptian actor Nour Al Sharif said during an exclusive interview with the news broadcasting channel ‘Al Arabia’ that allegations made against him stating he supports Syrian President Bashar Al Asad is an insult to him.
Nour stressed that the mere raising of Bashar’s picture is considered an insult and a sight he does not wish to see. Nour said that his good friend Syrian caricature Ali Farzat being tortured and having his fingers cut off by the Syrian government makes him resent Bashar and all that he represents.
Nour stated that Bashar never fought or even stood up to Israel since gaining power and if he only once fought, he would have the full support of all Arab nations.
With regards to the Egyptian revolution, Nour said that the former regime of President Husni Mubarak was late in fulfilling the demands of the Egyptian people and that led to the revolution and their toppling. He added that what the Egyptian people want is social equality and freedom to live in a democratic country.
Nour said that Mubarak’s era was not all bad and it was supposed to be a time of reform. He added that at the beginning of his rule, Mubarak had done great things like building a strong foundation in Egypt with regards to roads, water and electricity.
Away from politics, Nour is currently preparing to film the first scenes of his upcoming television drama “Arfat Al Bahr”. A number of prominent actors will take part in the drama like Ahmad Budayr, who stated that the drama will be aired in the Ramadan season of 2012 and will be filmed in the Egyptian city of Alexandria.
