Egyptian director Nader Galal has nominated film star Omar al Sherif for the starring role in his upcoming film Hamasat Shaitaniya (Devilish Whispers) based on Naguib Mahfouz’s story.
Costarring in the film along with al Sherif, Hani Salama, Abeer Sabri and Hussein al Imam.
The film scripted by Nabil Shaeb, tells the story of a businessman called Gaber al Gaberi (played by al Sherif) who meets a young man (played by Salama) who works in trade business. Gaber convinces the young man that he can make him a millionaire during only 24 hours through trading in drugs. The two men have many exiting adventures. At the end they recognize that they have committed a lot of crimes.
“The film is based on Naguib Mahfouz’s short story al Liqaa (the Meeting) which is one of a short stories group published in 1980 under the title al Shaitan Yaeth (the Devil Preaches),” Shaeb told the London-based daily al Hayat. He noted, “when I met Mahfouz to ask permision before changing the title and some events in the story, he didn’t remember the story.”
The scenarist explained that “the story emphasizes that man chooses his own destiny. So, what his destiny will be if he listens to the devils’ whispers?”
Shaeb added that this is his third work which is based on Mahfouz’s story, as he has scripted the two TV series, al Nisian (the Oblivion) and Muntaha al Quwa (the Maximum Power) based on the story Thakiret al Giran (the Neighbors’ Memory).
However, Hamasat Shaitaniya is al Sherif’s forth film which is based on Mahfouz’s story, after the films, Bedaia wa Nehaia (a Start and an End) directed by Salah Abu Seif, Ayyoub, and Endama Yaati al Masaa (When the Evening Comes) directed by Hani Lashin – Albawaba.com
