The celebration was held at the Media Production City and birthday cake was arranged for the actor displaying two different scenes from his most memorable role, one as Lawrence of Arabia.
Head of the Media Production City personally attended the event along with the entire cast and crew of Omar’s new television drama “Hanan Wa Haneen”.
Director Enas Baker of the drama had nominated El Sharif, Ahmad Ramzi, Madeline Matar, Samira Abdul Aziz and Abdul Rahmnan Abu Zahra to star in the new television drama.
Filming locations have been set to be in Alexandria Egypt and New York in the USA. Enas had previously won an a golden award at the Radio and Television Festival in 2001 for her film “Sahrit Taksheerit Mirati” (My Wife’s Frown), which was produced by the Voice of Cairo. She had also worked with El Sharif previously as an assistant director in some of his films.
On a different note, a US court has ordered prominent Egyptian actor Omar El Sharif to undergo 15 hours of psychological therapy and has put him under probation for the next two years. The verdict was placed on the actor due to his uncontrolled anger that he must overcome.
The trial dates back a year ago when the actor assaulted a Latino man working at a gas station in Beverly Hills California. The man was late in brining Omar’s car out and the actor began hitting him and calling him a ‘stupid Mexican’.
The Latino American, Juan Anderson, filed a lawsuit against Omar accusing him of being a racist.
On his part, Omar’s lawyer denied that the actor made such remarks and considered the entire lawsuit as silly, adding that there were many witnesses who can prove that Omar did not commit any racial crime.
