North by Northwest and Ed Wood actor Martin Landau has died.
TMZ said that the actor died at the UCLA Medical Center on Saturday, following unexpected complications during a brief hospital stay.
A former newspaper cartoonist, Martin Landau had an envious career, appearing in almost 200 films and TV shows and working with iconic filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock in North by Northwest. For his work, he was nominated three times for an Academy Award, winning one in 1994 for Tim Burton's film Ed Wood.
He famously turned down the role of Mr. Spock in the TV series Star Trek, a role which his friend Leonard Nemoy took instead. Landau also appeared alongside his former wife Barbara Bain in Space: 1999, a cult classic which ran for two seasons, and The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island (1981). He also appeared on the original Mission: Impossible TV series.
He also starred in works like Tucker: The Man and His Dream, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Rounders, Pork Chop Hill, City Hall, and Rounders.
Farewell, Martin Landau.
