Lebanese spirit sings in Egypt's soul: Oumeima El-Khalil jazzes up theatre

Lebanese singer Oumeima El-Khalil [will] perform[s] at Cairo's El-Genaina Theatre for two nights this week.

El-Khalil was born in the village of Al-Fakiha in Lebanon, close to Baalbek, to an artistically-inclined family. She began singing at the age of 12, and was soon afterward discovered by renowned musician Marcel Khalifeh, who introduced her to wider audiences through his band, Al-Mayadeen.

El-Khalil, who now has two albums under her belt, adopts a style that mixes Oriental themes with Blues and Jazz music.
