Palestinian Film “Al Sabbar” Attracts Swiss Audience

The documentary Palestinian film “Al Sabbar” which explores the lives of Palestinians refugees inside Palestine and in the Diaspora and the Palestinian devastated villages has attracted the audience attention when it was screened in the Swiss cities of Geneva and Lusanne.  

Poet Zahira Sabbagh from the Palestinian town of Nazareth who attended the film screening said that discussions were made after the screening during which extremist Israeli parties attempted to create suspicions regarding the film credibility and content. But, the poet added, the Swiss audience who saw the film did not respond positively to them and expressed its solidarity with what the film conveyed. 

The film tells the story of the Palestinian refugees including those living in Palestinian and their villages, which had been devastated before and after 1948. Filming was carried out by the Photographer Shams who photographed some of the Palestinian cities and villages including Ikret, Kfar Burum, Ein Al Zaytoun, Safad, Al Shajarah, Saffouiryyeh, Wadi Al Saleeb, and Haifa. 

The film explores also through these photographs the Palestinian refugees issue and end with portraying photographs taken from Ein Al Hilweh refugee camp in Lebanon. 

Dr. Hans Bernat and his wife Marlene who lived in Palestine during 1948 and 1967 wars through their work for the Red Cross and the British Hospital in the Palestinian town of Nazareth Played roles in the film. 

The film has so far been screened more than 150 times in many World capitals and the last one was in the city of New York. It will soon be aired by ground TV stations on the anniversary of the “Land Day” and by the Qatari Jazeera satellite channel. 

Zahira said that “Al Sabbar” would be screened in Nazareth in the presence of its cast. The film was directed by the Swiss director Patrick Borgby and includes songs by the Palestinian singer Reem Bana from Nazareth -- Albawaba.com
