The casts of the play “Unexpected Plan“ continue to perform the play in the Palestinian towns and cities of the West Bank. The performance of the play started two months ago and it has been staged in Jerusalem, Ramallah and Tulkaerm and will tour other residential areas in future.
The play is one of a multipartite project directed by Fransioe Abu Salem (who established the Palestinian Hakawati group) that will be implemented over the next few years. Abu Salem has returned home from France after staying there for 10 years during which time he was a drama director in Paris.
The director started his work on the play after it had been written by Poet Hussein al-Barghoothi by holding theatrical workshops in the Palestinian towns and cities where he chose a number of professional actors who were later joined by other playgoers and French professionals. In this way, a cast of 15 members has been formed.
The play tells about a Palestinian called Shams who was fascinated by Paris. His big dream was being able to go and live there for a number of years. Shams did not possess anything but the will to live and determination to love anything beautiful in the French capital. Accidentally, Shams met a lady from one of the Palestinian organizations who instigated his return home. He responded to her wishes and returned to the Palestinian lands. The play explores a number of themes including land, the Palestinian homeland and organized work.
On the other hand, the play “al-Akash“ composed and played by Adnan Tarabsheh and directed by Riyadh Masarweh was performed at the Palestinian National Theater stage on the evening of March 11, 2001. The play is about a Palestinian citizen from one of the Arab villages inside the “Green Line” who was confused regarding his identity without being able to define it. With the first stone thrown at the Israeli army in the al Aqsa Intifada, he decided to live in the West Bank where he worked as a taxi driver and an actor and became a thief etc… He tried everything but he could not make his living due to the continuous demonstrations against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land. Amid all the conflicts he discovered that the most rewarding job was “grave digging.” This is because of the large number of Martyrs among the Palestinian youth and children who are shot and killed by the Israeli soldiers for throwing stones at them.
Finally, the Palestinian citizen decided to break all relations with the outside world and build for himself an independent state that has its own laws and regulations – Albawaba.com
