The play Petrol Ya Hukoomah (Petrol, Government) scripted and directed by Hamad al Remaihi and costarring Abdel Aziz Jasem and Saad al Faraj will be staged on the sidelines of Doha Cultural Festival.
“The play is about the Arab conflicts which reach the level of conspiracy through the story of a family consisting of three brothers with different ages and thoughts. While the first lives on the memories of the past away from the social developments, the second is fanatic. The third is a businessman who distances himself from the other two as he trades with everything,” Remaihi told the Qatari daily al Rayah.
A squabble erupts between the three brothers over the house they live in as each one of them wants to impose his idea on the others. The first nixes the idea to sell the house as it is the element that unites the family while the younger brother supported by the third brother sees that selling the house and investing the money in commerce is the most appropriate action.
Events are stepped up when a foreign company willing to purchase the house emerges because it discovers by satellite that the house is located above a sea of oil. This increases the dispute between the three brothers but the foreign company suggests forming a partnership with them. The brothers begin conspiracy against each other, which leads the third to prison over a forged accusation. Eventually the brothers discover the big deception and the illusion to which they are attracted but it is too late—Albawaba.com
