The cost of the dresses which actress Raghda wore in the first part of the Egyptian series al Barr al Gharbi (western land) which was aired last Ramadan, aroused questions at the Egyptian Central Auditing Agency, according to the London based Arabic daily al Sharq al Awsat.
After five months of correspondence, the agency received a response on its letter sent to the Egyptian TV Production Department inquiring about the cost of the dresses worn by Raghda in the series. The official contracts revealed that the clothes costs amounted to 100,000 pounds taken from the series budget.
Raghda who played the role as an English princess sought the help of an international expert in clothes who accompanied her during the series shooting to choose the dresses that suited the historical era of the series and the status of the character she played.
For his part, director Isamel Abdel Hafez told the daily, “the roles in the series second part which will be aired during the forthcoming fasting month of Ramadhan will be played by the same stars including Raghda, Farouq al Fishawi and Sanaa Gamil.”
“The series will present some surprises after the screenwriter Mohammed Galal Abdel Qawi has made some amendments. The series is set in the first half of the twentieth century during the British occupation of Egypt in the Egyptian village of Nazlet al Samman near the Pyramids area,” added the director -- Albawaba.com
