Last Thursday, Emirati singer and former Super Star contestant Saoud Abou Sultan was sentenced to three years in jail for raping a French woman in Dubai.
This week, he spoke out about the incident and the court's decision. Sultan is convinced that the Emirati justice system will be fair to him, assuring his fans that he has never hurt anyone in his entire life, Al Qads Al Arabi reported.
Sultan told Al Fann news, "I'm positive that the court's decision to sentence me to three years in jail, instead of six, will soon change. The Emirati judicial system will eventually come to the conclusion that I didn't rape the French woman."
"The Lower Court's forensic evidence proved that a rape didn't take place and that the sex was consensual. The truth is with the Lower Court," Sultan added.
The Dubai Criminal Court had originally sentenced the culprit to six months in jail when he proved that the victim went back to his place willingly. He was given the short sentence at the time for having sex before marriage with her, according to Laha Magazine.
It was later proven that the victim was raped with the help of Sultan's friend after she passed out from drinking too much alcohol. She later woke up in a hospital, where doctors informed her of the incident, reported El Fagr news.
Sultan's friend was an accomplice in the crime and the Appeals Court also sentenced him to one year behind bars.
