Director Mohammad Azizieh of the controversial Ramadan television drama series “The Road to Kabul” has stressed that there is no convincing reason for stopping the airing of the drama and that they had never received any threats by any Islamic extremist. Mohammad revealed that there was no justification for banning the series by the Arab satellite television channels that had begun broadcasting it and their actions are a mere obstruction of the freedom of opinion.
According to the London based weekly, Sayidaty, the director stressed that the drama presented an important issue that concerns every Arab citizen and did not offend anyone directly or even indirectly. He added that they never received any threats to stop making the drama and that it is just a rumor by different people to find excuses to stop airing it. Mohammad revealed that he intends on working on a new project about Abu Ghraib Prison in Iraq and hopes that he will find the needed support to reveal to the world the actual facts of the torture that occurs.
It was rumored that an anonymous Islamist group had threatened everyone who took part in the drama in addition to all television stations who broadcast it. The threat was posted on the Internet and clearly said that anyone who has anything to do with airing the drama will be attacked, if not in the time being, their time will come in the very near future or even in one year. The threat added that no one will be forgotten no matter how long it takes to make their vengeance. The group had stressed that the facts portrayed in the drama are an insult and hold no truth to them.
The last thread of hope has been stripped away from the cast after the Arabic television channel MBC stopped the broadcasting of the series. The decision of MBC has caused the entire cast to fall into a state of extreme depression especially the lead actor Abed Fahed.
Abed revealed that the series was stopped after the producing company refused to give the remaining episodes and the reason behind this was the so called threats the producers, which are Qatar television, received. The actor added that he along with the entire cast had received threats even before the drama was broadcasted.
Abed stressed that he is certain that in a few months time the drama will be aired once more, adding that the losses caused by the stoppage during Ramadan will not be easily compensated.
The Arab satellite television channel MBC ended its broadcast of “The Road to Kabul” after having aired 8 episodes. It has been revealed that the channel stopped its broadcast of the drama due to the fact that the production company refused to submit the remaining episodes of the series to the channel.
Officials at MBC made a public announcement to all their viewers stressing that they regret not being able to air the drama because they do not have copies of the remaining episodes and the company that produced the work refused to give any justifications for its actions.
Officials at the Qatar Broadcasting television have decided to stop the airing of the “The Road to Kabul” on the notion that the drama was not complete in a technical sense. Management had made a public announcement that due to technical issues it does not make any sense to air the drama because it will have no true meaning. –Albawaba.com
