Salwa Khatab refuses for the second time to accept an Oscar for Best Supporting Role

Egyptian actress Salwa Khatab refused to attend the Film Association Festival to accept an award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film "Al Saher" (The Magician). Salwa said that her role in the film was a leading and not a supporting one and therefore she should have been nominated for the award for Best Performing Actress. 

 

According to the Egyptian weekly, Al Nogoom, this is the second time throughout her career that Salwa receives an award for a supporting role and never for the leading role, and both in both instances the actress refused to accept the awards and makes it a point not to attend. 

 

The film "Al Saher" won the award for the best Arabic film at Damascus latest festival. Director of the film, Radwan al Kashef, tackled through an issue, which the Egyptian cinema did not tackle so often in the past. Salwa played the role of a divorced Shawkiyyah who lives in a poor neighborhood making a living out of handmade puppets. The actress regarded her role in the film was one of the best she had ever played and probably one of the most important. She also starred in the films "Aragose" (Clown), "Katibat al Ea’dam" (Death Brigade) and many others.”  

 

Khatab chose the roles she played with great care and lives these roles in a unique manner that led her to success. One of her most noted TV appeareances was in the drama "Hadith al Sabah Wa al Masaa" (Morning and Evening Speech) which was aired during the last fasting month of Ramadan two years ago. 

 

"Hadith al Sabah Wa al Masaa" marked a key turning point in the history of the Egyptian drama. It has come out differently from other series in its story, direction and actors’ roles and its success has confirmed this fact, in addition it has was a turning point in the course of her career as an actress who played the role of a woman characterized with daring, courage and intelligence.  

 

Salwa's roles are relatively few and this stems from the fact that she dislikes taking part in anything unless she is sure of its success. She had also taken part in the well-known series "Raafat Al Haggan", playing the role of an Israeli female journalist who collaborates with the Israeli Intelligence, al Mosad, despite the fact that she opposes Israel from the personal, national and pan Arab points of view. –Albawaba.com
