British musician Sami Yusuf, described as “Islam’s biggest rock star” by Time magazine, will perform in Oman for the first time on Aug. 30 at Sultan Qaboos University,Gulf News reported on Monday.

Yusuf, born to Azerbaijani parents and raised in Britain, has a huge following throughout the Middle East and North Africa, as well as among Muslims worldwide.

He has been described by The Guardian newspaper as “the most famous British Muslim in the world.”

Yusuf boasts an impressive range of instruments from Eastern and Western traditions, and sings in a variety of languages, including English, Arabic, Turkish and Persian.

His self-composed songs convey messages of love, hope and peace in the Muslim world.

Yusuf attracted a record-breaking crowd of 250,000 at a concert in Taksim Square, Istanbul.
