Being famous isn't all it's cracked up to be. Yes you will be loaded, and yes you'll be able to do what you want when you want to, but there's a big chance anxiety will soon creep in, even for those most accustomed to the spotlight.
British pop star Zayn Malik has publicly admitted to suffering from severe anxiety, which has sadly led to cancelling his "one night only" concert in Dubai.
Zayn was set to perform at the new Autism Rocks Arena on October 7. The concert would have marked his first and only solo gig after leaving boyband One Direction.
The 23-year-old singer apologized to his fans in an open letter released by the concert organizer 117Live, which read:
“I have been working over the last three months to overcome my extreme anxiety around major live solo performances.
“I feel I am making progress but I have today acknowledged that I do not feel sufficiently confident to move forward with the planned show in Dubai in October.”
Zayn thanked his fans for the support, especially the ticket holders, who will be fully refunded by 117Live.
While 117Live were disappointed with Zayn's decision, they appreciated his honesty.
“Whilst disappointed not to be hosting the planned Oct 7 Dubai concert, we appreciate Zayn’s honest apologies and wish him all the best for the future,” said CEO Thomas Ovesen.
“We will be looking forward to sharing more of Zayn’s plans with his Middle East fans when we have such information and will now get the ticket refund process started. See you all at our other events at the Autism Rocks Arena.”
This isn't the first time anxiety got the better of Zayn; he cancelled his UK performance at the London Capital Summertime Ball in June due to the "worst anxiety of my career."
