An Egyptian court in Al Giza has sentenced Egyptian actress Sabrine Nabil Mohammad Al Askari known as Shams to a three-month jail sentence with labour for driving under the influence of alcohol. The actress was also charged a 500 Egyptian pound fine for driving without her license and another 200 pounds for not having her identification card with her.
According to the London based Elaph, after the judge gave the verdict, the actress was handcuffed and escorted by police to a women's prison in Al Qanatir to serve her sentence.
The court had previously sentenced Shams to three years imprisonment for driving while under the influence of alcohol. The actress was charged on the spot for drinking and driving and fined 500 Egyptian pounds for driving without a license.
Shams had been caught by the police after the she ran into a bridge in Aljiza district while heading home after a night out with some friends. The damage caused by Shams to the bridge was estimated to cost around 7 thousands Egyptian pounds. The autopsy report added that despite the high percentage of alcohol in her blood the actress was sober enough to know where she was and what aware of what she had committed.
Previously a lawsuit was filed against Shams for issuing bad checks to a car dealer. The actress had bought a car and wrote bad checks and when the dealer filed his lawsuit she accused him of harassment a matter that made the court’s verdict in her favor and she was taken off the hook while the dealer was sentenced to a three months prison term.
On a different note, Shams had taken part in two big TV dramas. The first alongside prominent Egyptian actor Yahia Fakharani in “Lil’adala Wojouh Okhra” (Other faces of Justice), and the other in “Ain Qalbi” (Where is my Heart), with prominent actress Yusra. –Albawaba.com
