Last night's concluding ceremony of the 18th Alexandria Film Festival has witnessed a moment of silence and tears as one of the jury's members read a letter of apology from the renowned Egyptian star Sharihan.
The festival's organizers have earlier sent Sharihan a letter of invitation to receive her prize for 'Best Actress' for her role in "Al I'shk Wa al Dam" (Love and Blood), the movie of which has won three prizes for 'Best Actress', 'Best Actor', and 'Best Music'.
Audiences were surprised as the head of the festival, Mr. Mustafa Muharam, read the letter sent by Sharihan from Paris apologizing for not being able to come and share the happy moment with the people. “I’m facing a serious health problem, and I ask all people to pray for me in order to pass the critical surgery I’m going to do tomorrow,” were Sahrihan’s words, which forced tears in the eyes of many audiences in the hall.
Sharihan did not clarify her health situation and said nothing about the kind of surgery she is going to undergo today.
Last month, the beautiful star raised a conflict with the Egyptian Bar Association and Egyptian courts, as she applied to the association wanting to become a lawyer. The association refused Shrihan’s request due to certain conditions, which requires her to have a respectable profession.
Replying to the court’s decision, Sharihan filed for an appeal, stating that she will never give up for her right to become a lawyer. The Court of Appeal in turn transferred the case to the Court of Cassation, in order not to flare up issues between them and the Bar Association. The issue might take a couple of months for its final court decision. – Albawaba.com
