Egyptian singer Shireen Wajdi has filed a lawsuit against composer Mohammed Ali Sulieman and journalist Talal Teima, editor-in-chief of Zahrat al-Khaleej magazine, for insulting and undermining her publicly. The magazine had published and article which included fierce statements made by the composer comparing Shireen to Egyptian folk singer Shaban Abdul Rahim in terms of looks and style.

According to the Egyptian daily, Al Gomhouria, the article had caused Shireen a lot of embarrassments amidst other female singers in the Middle East. She demanded compensation for the psychological and financial damages caused as a result of such rude and improper comments.

On a different note, Wajdi was nominated for the leading role in the new TV drama series that revolves around the life of Algerian renowned singer Warda. It was revealed that the script of the series is currently being prepared and written by Mahfouz Abdul Rahma, who is the same writer that wrote the successful drama series Umm Kalthoom tackling the life of the late icon Kawkab Al Sharq, in complete secrecy.

Shireen will play the role of Warda tackling different stages throughout the great singer's life. The drama will be produced under the supervision of Shireen's husband, Ehab Til'at. Scenes will revolve around the beginning of Warda's career and discovering her talent, then moving on to her marriage and resignation from the music world, and ending with her return to Cairo and singing once more after her divorce, and finally will include scenes about her relationship with the late prominent Egyptian composer Baligh Hamdi.

Shireen released her album “Wala Laileh” (Not One Night) by the music Production Company Rotana, known for being one of the Arab world’s top music production companies, on December 28, 2002. As part of Rotana’s style during any new release a huge advertising campaign was made on TV stations, magazines, and on every street corner was held for the Egyptian singer. In addition, a huge celebration was held for the release of Shireen Wajdi’s album at the Regency Palace hotel in Beirut. The big event, which was aired live by the satellite channel ART, was attended by a large number of journalists, singers and actors from the Arab world. The Algerian Fola, Haifa Wahbi, Alissa, Assi Hilani, Sabah and Miho, Madeline Matar, Madonna, the band Gitara and many others were among those who attended the event.

The English-graduate singer from Ein Shams University, signed late last September, a three-year contract with Rotana Production Company. The contract stipulates the launching of one album each year. Rotana’s general manager, Mr. Salim Al Hindi, has personally headed for Cairo to sign the contract with the renowned singer in a ceremony attended by Shireen's husband businessman Ehab Tal'at and Rotana's office manger in Cairo, Dr. Mohammed Hazem. –Albawaba.com
