Long before Ice Cube hit the silver screen with Barbershop and 21 Jump Street, Snoop Dogg voiced animated films and Dr Dre sold his Beats headphones brand to Apple for $3B, they were all Boyz in the Hood.
Dre and Ice Cube have produced the film which charts their ground-breaking rise to fame from the gritty LA suburb of Compton as rappers NWA.
Released last month, Straight Outta Compton made $60.2 million its first weekend.
In a surprisingly tame portrayal, the film features police harassment, internal squabbles, money, drugs, and a veritable who's who of gangsta rap trailblazers that include Snoop Dogg, Suge Knight, Eazy-E, DJ Yella, Tupac Shakur.
Head to the cinemas, gangsta rap and music history fans - but be warned, just don't sing the non-so-squeaky-clean lyrics too loudly in public!
