As the Halloween season ushers in, New Line Cinema's supernatural thriller “Annabelle” scared off competition at Lebanon's box office last week, collecting $90,827 in its debut, according to Box Office Mojo.

Drawing on the proud cinematic tradition of demonic dolls, such as Chucky of the “Child’s Play” franchise, evil takes its doll in "Annabelle."

A spinoff from James Wan's haunted-house hit "The Conjuring," the film takes us back to how the doll came to be possessed.

Medical-school student John (Ward Horton) surprises his expectant wife Mia (Annabelle Wallis) with Annabelle for her growing doll collection, only for satanic cultists to invade their home and turn the vintage porcelain doll into a conduit for pure evil.

The apocalyptic action film, "Left Behind," came in second in its first week of release, grossing $63,585.

Based on the New York Times bestselling novel series, written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, the film depicts the biblical prophecy of the Rapture, focusing its story on those left on earth.

The Rapture wreaks havoc on the earth when millions of people suddenly vanish. Ray Steele (Nicolas Cage), a veteran airline pilot, struggles to save the terrified passengers who remain on his flight, when he runs out of fuel thirty thousand feet over the Atlantic.

Two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington's "The Equalizer" nabbed third place with $56,244.

Reteaming with "Training Day" director Antoine Fuqua, Washington plays a former commando living a quiet life in Boston when an encounter with a prostitute (Chloe Grace Moretz) lures him back into the job to battle with the Russian mob.

David Fincher’s thriller "Gone Girl" placed at four in its second week, with takings of $53,382.

The suspense-laden literary adaptation tells the story of a writer (Ben Affleck) who becomes a murder suspect after his wife (Rosamund Pike) goes missing.

"Dracula Untold" is a flop at the box office, dropping to fifth place after losing 70.7% of its audience from last week with an estimated $46,715 in takings. Directed by Gary Shore, the action-fantasy film explores the origin story of the man who became Dracula (Luke Evans).

Keep a lookout for one of Nicholas Sparks' heart-tugging tales of love lost and found in "The Best of Me" coming out Oct. 16.
