A Kuwaiti newspaper accused the star of Ruby, the Syrian TV series, Cyrine Abdelnour, of insulting God in one of the scenes between the actress and her on-screen mother. Though according to the report, it's a combined mother-daughter insult, and let's not forget it's about the roles depicted and not the actresses!

Al Sada magazine said that the series encourages a lot of questionable values and goes against a lot of fundamentals in Arab society. The report also opposes the story line which - it argues- encourages forms of dishonest indiscretions and hidden relations outside of marriage.

According to Al Muheet website, the magazine is not happy with the 36th episode, where the lead actress is in her apartment in a state of drunkenness, before being slapped by her mother who says, "God, what did I do to you?"

This was interpreted and faulted for revealing that a lack of respect in addressing the Lord went hand in hand with bad parenting, specifically the inept mothering that could hardly raise a daughter with proper moral values.

The leading Syrian actor in the Ruby TV series, Maxim Al Khalil defended the home-grown soap as a good example of contemporary drama, entertaining in both form and content.

He had more to say on Ruby's virtues, citing it as a youthful gritty social drama, exceptionally directed. He highlights its strong plot, script and dialogue which are very detailed, and commends the elaborate efforts that go into the production.

The Syrian actor had more to say on working with actress Cyrine Abdelnour on both the personal and professional level, elaborating, "She is a beautiful lady who comes with morals and manners. She stands out for her love for her work; she is spontaneous, she deals with her colleagues diplomatically; she is a consummate professional who respects her work schedule, and above all is very clearly smart and witty".

Over to the reader and viewer!
