ALBAWABA- The confrontation between the United States and Iran intensified on Thursday as fresh strikes were reported on Iranian territory and drone attacks targeted Kuwait, further widening a conflict that has increasingly engulfed the Gulf region.
Iranian media reported explosions in the country's south, with Fars News Agency saying residents heard a blast originating from the sea near Larac Island.
Separately, Tasnim News Agency reported that a US missile struck an area near the coastal town of Soozah on Qeshm Island, a strategic location overlooking the Strait of Hormuz. The reported strikes are believed to be part of ongoing US operations targeting Iranian military-linked sites.
In Kuwait, the army said the Abdali border crossing with Iraq came under repeated hostile drone attacks on Thursday evening, causing material damage but no casualties. Kuwait's Foreign Ministry condemned what it described as continued "aggression by Iran and its agents," calling the attack a violation of the country's sovereignty.
The latest military exchanges came as US President Donald Trump signaled the possibility of renewed large-scale military operations against Iran. In an interview with Axios, Trump said Tehran was seeking negotiations but "hasn't received enough pain yet" to reach an agreement, adding that he was considering resuming major combat operations beyond those conducted during Operation Epic Fury.
The US State Department also issued an updated advisory urging American citizens across the Middle East to prepare for possible flight disruptions and travel complications resulting from the escalating conflict.
Several Gulf states and Jordan condemned the latest attacks, warning that continued Iranian strikes and the activities of Iran-backed groups threaten regional security, civilian infrastructure, and international maritime navigation.
The latest escalation follows weeks of reciprocal US and Iranian strikes targeting military installations, strategic infrastructure, and shipping routes, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz. The conflict has also expanded through attacks by Iran-aligned groups across the region, heightening concerns over global energy supplies and maritime trade.
