Egyptian actress Tayseer Fahmi said that her American Citizenship did not stand in the way of her forming a new Egyptian political party. It is only an obstacle if she intends on running for the Presidency of Egypt, which she does not intend to pursue.

Tayseer said that she formed the political party to take an active role in developing a democratic culture in Egypt that aims to achieve equal rights for all Egyptians, and the development of the country.

According to the London based Elaph, the new party is named “Equality and Development” and one of its most important goals is achieving equality between men and women in Egypt, and equality among people in terms of income, living conditions, and security. The party also focuses on development of economic and human resources.

Tayseer revealed that she did not make special requests to stars to join the party and until now none have joined. She welcomes everyone to join, whether they are artists, political figures or average citizens, said Tayseer.

The number of members that have joined has reached a record breaking high of 6,000 people in such a short period of time, according to Tayseer.
