After a tricky and potentially fatal operation in the United States, Georges Wassouf returned to Lebanon in the late hours of May 31 to find a crowd of some 2,000 people greeting him, first at Beirut Airport, and then at his home in Rabieh, according to thisiscyberia.com.

His arrival was aired live by Sawt Al Ghad (Tomorrow’s Voice), and the star known as the Sultan of Tarab was overwhelmed by the warmth of his family, friends and fans. Wassouf assured his fans that he would be performing again soon.

Wassouf underwent a successful operation on both legs at the Harvard University Hospital in Boston on May 14. Not much is known about the nature of Wassouf’s leg problem. Thisiscyberia.com quoted surgeon Dr. Thomas Thornhillas saying that the problem had to do with overexposure due to extreme sports or movement, though others claim it has more to do with Wassouf’s fast-lane lifestyle.

A few weeks ago, before Wassouf’s hospitalization, Jordanian Top Ten Show presenter Rania Awamleh, publicly but incorrectly announced the death of the Syrian superstar, which led to a flood of thousands of sad and angry phone calls.

Wassouf’s fans however, will be happy to hear that he’s coming back with a new album, Zaman Al Ajayeb, that is expected to come out soon. Apart from the title song, the album includes five songs: Sikkit Safar, Allah Yekoun bi Aoun, Koulina Magarrih, Youm Al Wida’a and Lel Hawa Ahkam – Albawaba.com
