Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers helped Vice President Al Gore get over his disappointment by serenading him at home an hour after Gore conceded the presidency to George W. Bush on national television.
According to ABC online, Petty played for an hour at Gore’s mansion and was joined by Blues Traveler frontman John Popper, while Stevie Wonder and Jon Bon Jovi joined in the singing.
According to Petty’s representative, even Tipper Gore joined in the performance, playing percussion through a set that included Petty hits American Girl, which Gore requested and, oddly enough, I Won’t Back Down.
Petty and his crew followed it up with another presidential performances. The rockers played the White House on December 15, to tape A Very Special Christmas From Washington, DC, which will air Dec. 19 on TNT. – Albawaba.com.
