After the six weeks of Dubai Summer Surprises’ retail therapy comes to an end, you might feel a little low - but Dubai’s calendar is always bursting with interesting things to do. The Summer of Laughter from the Laughter Factory is an immediate tonic, or perhaps you’d prefer to sing your heart out with Saudi legend Mohamed Abdo? For the younger music fans there’s a free gig from Hala Al Turk, while culture vultures can learn about palm architecture or even discover how the emirates first came together at the Etihad Museum.

Final Dubai Summer Surprises weekend
All good things must come to an end, and this Saturday, 4 August, is the final day of Dubai Summer Surprises, the festival of leisure, shopping and entertainment.
It’s not too late to take advantage of city-wide retail discounts, dining offers and live entertainment. Answer a phone at The Dubai Mall to win an instant prize; let the kids go wild and create their vision of the city of tomorrow with Lego, or maybe listen to singing legends Hala Al Turk or Mohamed Abdo, both of whom are performing to mark the end of the six-week entertainment festival.
Meanwhile The World Champion Beatbox Group promises to deliver an energetic, high-octane show set to wow crowds with unstoppable energy and playful routines at Dubai Festival City Mall.

Mohamed Abdo Live in concert for Dubai Summer Surprises
Prepare to have your mood lifted, as revered Saudi singer Mohamed Abdo performs a live concert at Dubai World Trade Center’s Sheikh Rashid Hall, marking the end of this year’s Dubai Summer Surprises. Abdo’s unique talents have seen him perform globally and release dozens of albums. Renowned for his renditions of traditional tunes, some of his top hits include ‘El Amaken’, ‘Bent El Noor’, and ‘Marrat Sana’.

Hala Al Turk - a Beautiful Voice and Beauty Tips
Festival Square at Dubai Festival City Mall is the place to be this weekend. The pinnacle of the family entertainment is a free concert from Bahraini singing sensation, Hala Al Turk, who rose to fame in her childhood thanks to winning the hit MBC TV show, “Arabs Got Talent” when she was just eight.
Check her out on Youtube and you’ll undoubtedly deliver another ‘thumbs up’ to Hala’s video hit 'I Love You Mama', which has had more than 37 million views. As well as singing, the youthful star will be offering up beauty tips and revealing her new collection at Robinsons flagship department store.

Laughter Factory at Moevenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach
August starts with a smile this weekend, thanks to the original live stand-up comedy from The Laughter Factory. This comedy night might be homegrown, but each and every month it brings foreign comedy talent to Dubai’s top spots, for unmatched nights of fun. This month’s first set of gigs is at the Moevenpick Hotel, The Walk, Jumeirah Beach, in a dedicated space.
These shows play host tocomics straight from Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival, with the UK's Dane Baptiste offering excerpts from his sellout Citizen Dane tour, Canadian Sean Collins promising wry observational humour. Bronx native and ex-lawyer Jackie Fabulous will be adding some Big Apple sass and acerbic wit for a mash-up of Oprah, Rosie, Ellen and Martha with added attitude.

Learn the Art of Palm Leaf Architecture
Alserkal Avenue, Dubai’s arts, crafts and entertainment hub, is presenting a series of free talks and activities over summer, all around the theme of ‘Sensing Memory’.
This two-hour interactive session presented by leading architect Asna Moazzam, provides fresh insight into the ancient craft of ‘Arish’ (palm leaf) architecture.. Entitled 'Revival', Moazzam will discuss its long history in the UAE, some of the challenges facing its conservation and what the future holds for this iconic architectural style. Witness the UAE’s contemporary history
If you are one of those who feels it’s too hot to spend too much time outdoors at the moment, why not take advantage of the cool, contemporary interiors and stunning architecture of the Etihad Museum? The clue’s in the name -’Etihad’ means Union in English and this beautiful building is an interactive experience describing the formation of the United Arab Emirates as we know it today.
There’s enough to pique the attention of all the family, and our favourites include the philately section - where you can write and send a postcard with a unique museum stamp.
