Dubai Home Festival is well underway but the excitement is as fresh as ever. The inaugural festival, which runs until 1 May, sheds a light on home brands in Dubai, as stores across town offer shoppers unbeatable discounts, prizes and deals. If you’ve been updating your home mood board, have your eyes set on a new coffee table or want to add a dash of something special to your house, this is the perfect occasion to scope out all your favourite brands. Participating outlets and malls have also designed special raffles or spend-and-win promotions to add an element of surprise to all the excitement.

See the rousing tale of Sleeping Beauty

The wait is over, the highly anticipated ballet production of Sleeping Beauty arrives at Dubai Opera this weekend. This remarkable tale shares the story of a young princess, an evil fairy and a curse unleashed by the prick of a spindle. See it come back to life in its full, breathtaking form with the National Ballet of Ukraine and Tchaikovsky’s original score from 1890. It’s a highlight in Dubai Opera’s glittering 2019 calendar, which includes the Phantom of the Opera in its line-up. Live symphony orchestra, eye-catching costumes and a talented cast are bound to make this show one to remember.

Catch BAFTA-winning Michael McIntyre live

Michael McIntyre is no newbie to comedy circuits around the world and he’s certainly no newbie to Dubai, back for the first time since 2015. The celebrity comic is one of the UK’s top funnymen whose star has powered many television shows, international stand-up stages and even the judge’s panel in Britain’s Got Talent. One of the world's most successful comedians, McIntyre has mastered the art of making people laugh and has a great many awards to prove it. See him perform live this Thursday and Friday for shows that are almost sold out.

Free climb to the top of history

If you’re in the mood for a lowkey weekend, kick it back with some freshly popped popcorn, steaming cup of Karak from Project Chaiwala and a memorable film at Cinema Akil. This weekend is your last chance to catch Free Solo, a documentary that chronicles a daring climb up Yosemite National Park’s El Capitan. The film focuses on professional rock climber Alex Honnold as he takes on this 3,000-foot vertical cliff, which has been conquered by a great many climbers but never before without safety ropes.

See The Proclaimers live from way less than 500 miles away at Irish Village. The bespectacled twin brother-duo is best known for foot-tapping ditties that have made it into many Hollywood blockbusters, including Shrek and Pitch Perfect. They’ll be performing a repertoire of their folk rock-meets-indie pop hits including ‘I’m Gonna Be’ and ‘I’m On My Way’ for a fun-filled concert that is equal parts free-style karaoke.
