Here’s wishing you an early Eid Mubarak! Fireworks, chocolate tastings and summer offers – this long weekend’s agenda is as packed as you can imagine. Festivities ring in loud across Dubai, so commemorate the occasion with this weekend’s top seven things to do. 

Crash course on Eid culture  

Eid Al Adha, the festival of sacrifice, starts on 11 August. You can imagine the celebration is rolling in with grandeur and gaiety. From Ibn Battuta Mall to City Centre Deira, see roaming entertainers take over shopping centres with enchanting acts, including a circus, steampunk and pastel parade. In the evening, make your way to Dubai Festival City Mall to see a spectacular display of Eid fireworks with Imagine’s record-breaking choreography of water, technology and lasers. Food fun at Alserkal Avenue

Especially during Eid,  there’s no such thing as too much dessert. Dial up the sweet factor at Alserkal Avenue, where resident chocolatier Mirzam is offering free chocolate and coffee tastings on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays until the end of the month. For coffee connoisseurs, the coffee cupping session is an unsurprising magnet while chocolate lovers must check out the chocolate sampling session. If you fall in the centre of that Venn diagram, try Mirzam's coffee and chocolate pairing workshop for a bean-heavy weekend.

The Laughter Factory’s August roll call 

The Laughter Factory, Dubai’s longest-running comedy night, returns with a fresh batch of comics this weekend. Watch as Ro Campbell, Scott Bennett and Dave Fulton take on the task of making Dubai laugh at Movenpick Hotel JBR and Grand Millennium on Thursday and Friday. Each stand-up brings a long list of television credits, accolades and glowing reviews, which means guests should strap in for a night of great wit and banter.

Feline film fest at Cinema Akil 

See if you can settle that neverending dog-versus-cat debate over Cinema Akil’s cat-centric programme. Last call for Dia Al Azzawi

Time is ticking on Meem Gallery’s exhibition featuring pieces by Iraqi artist Dia Al Azzawi. This new body of work carries on the artist’s traditional subject matter, exploring his country, its legacy and all the cultures that have contributed to its identity throughout time. His work drips with rich historical matter and desert imagery, depicting architecture, geography and time-honoured symbols to reflect his fascination with Iraq’s storied past.
