The LA Times on Saturday published a review of Uprising, a US-produced documentary by Fredrick Stanton about the January 25 Revolution. The film relies on frontline footage and testimonials collected from revolutionaries who overthrew the regime of Hosni Mubarak.
The film is “absorbing" and “a vital and valuable tribute to these courageous men and women — and to love of country,” said the review.
During the film, journalism professor Rasha Abdulla says: “I’m going to fight for my dignity and I’m going to fight for my country and I’m just going to go out on the street and…and get this done myself.”
Actor and activist Amr Waked, who stars in the Golden Globe-nominated film Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, says: “We are a new people now.”
Brave protestors fighting against tear gas and suffering the wrath of security forces in the early days of the revolution are captured vividly in the film, illustrated by Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights' Hossam Bahgat, who says: “There is a price to be paid and…we are willing to pay it.”
Uprising was awarded best documentary at the 2012 Lone Start Film Festival, and at the 2012 Silicon Valley Film Festival, nominated for most inspirational and best documentary at the Orlando Film Festival 2012, and received official selection at; Beirut International Film Festival 2012, Hot Springs Documentary Festival 2012, Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival 2012, St. Louis International Film Festival 2012, Big Apple Film Festival 2012 and Santa Fe Film Festival 2012.
