Well, Disney is really remaking Aladdin, and we now have the first photo from the set to prove it.
Helmed by Guy Ritchie—the guy who directed RockNRolla, among other things—Aladdin will tell the tale of a “street rat” who decides to win the heart of a princess, and a genie who wants to help him.
The film stars Will Smith as the Genie—replacing the late Robin Williams, who improvised his way through the role and made it so memorable in 1992—as well as Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Naomi Scott (Princess Jasmine), and Marwan Kenzari (Jafar). And now they’re together in a photo.
“I’m over here gettin’ my Genie on,” said Smith.
The screenplay was penned by John August; Dan Lin is producing. The film will retain the original songs from 1992, but add another three. Alan Penkin, who composed the 1992 original, will be returning.
Disney hasn’t announced a release date for Aladdin, but we’re curious to see how the guy who made Snatch will do.
