Algerian singer Souad Massi will participate, with her new album "El Mutakallimun," in the 33rd edition of Womad Festival of Music, Arts and Dance, scheduled from 24 to 26 July in Wiltshire (South of United Kingdom), according to organizers.
The singer will perform songs from her new album "El Mutakallimun" released in April, which includes 10 songs both rich and diversified, inspired from classical Arab texts of famous Arab and contemporary poets such as Zoheir Ibn Abi Soulma, Imroue Al Kais, Al Mutanabbi, Abou al Kacem Echabbi and Ahmed Matar.
In her fifth album, the artist worked with many renowned musicians such as drummer and percussionist Mokhtar Samba, and pianist Dominique Berose. Born in 1972 in Algiers, Souad Massi is among the Algerian artists of international renown. She started her career in the 1990s and became famous with her album "Erraoui" in 2001.
The WOMAD Festival was founded by British rocker Peter Gabriel in 1980 and has been an annual feature of the British summer music festival scene since Genesis reunited for a fundraiser to keep the festival afloat.
Along with Massi, this year's lineup features Sing to the Moon songstress Laura Mvula as well as Algerian singer Nazim Ziryab, and Egypt's Hossam Ramzy.
