Wonder Woman is No. 1

Gal Gadot's superheroine movie Wonder Woman is the No. 1 movie in North America this weekend, earning $100.5 million in receipts, BoxOfficeMojo.com announced Sunday.

It is the highest debut by any female director in the US, a title previously held by Fifty Shades of Grey (2015; dir. Sam Taylor-Johnson).

Coming in at No. 2 is Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie with $23.5 million, followed by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales at No. 3 with $21.6 million, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at No. 4 with $9.7 million and Baywatch at No. 5 with $8.5 million.

Rounding out the top tier are Alien: Covenant at No. 6 with $4 million, Everything, Everything at No. 7 with $3.3 million, Snatched at No. 8 with $1.3 million, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul at No. 9 with $1.2 million and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword at No. 10 with $1.17 million.
