ALBAWABA - Yasser Al-Azma's first comment after Assad's fall.

On Tuesday, Syrian artist Yasser Al-Azma addressed a letter to the Syrian people following the fall of President Bashar Al-Assad's administration and the arrival of opposition factions into the capital, Damascus, warning against "attempts to steal the revolution and its hopes."

"My dear friends, my fellow compatriots," Al-Azma said in a taped statement he posted on his social media platforms. Today, we witness the rebirth of Syria, the defeat of the kingdom of injustice, the fall of the tyrant and his aides, and history demonstrates that the desire to overthrow tyrants does not signify the end of the battle, but rather the commencement of a significant responsibility that demands wisdom and calm, as homelands are based on reason and rationality rather than hatred and anger.

He stated that "freedom snatched from the clutches of monsters is valuable, but preserving it is more difficult." Recognizing that true victory involves more than just overthrowing the dictatorship, it also involves managing the motherland with fairness and wisdom, avoiding turmoil and dispersion.

Al-Azma made the argument that "justice requires patience and leadership requires foresight," indicating that "hope is born from the womb of the revolution, so let us be vigilant against those who try to steal the revolution and its hopes."

He underscored that the regime's downfall does not signify the end of the journey, given the relentless nature of international objectives. Our unity is our only defense against those who divide our country and steal its future, and even if we have deposed the hostile oppressors, their ambitions have not ceased."

"We must refuse to decide our fates at the tables of strangers, as there are those who await the fall of the country," the renowned Syrian artist said, advocating for "protecting our country from turning into an arena of foreign influence" and requesting the rejection of foreign interventions.

He ended his statement by saying, "My friends and worthy countrymen, let us form an invincible barricade against the bait and the devotees. May God protect Syria from all injustice and deceit, and may He bless all who wish it well and flourish."

Syrian opposition factions stormed Damascus before dawn on Sunday, December 8, and assumed control, with regime soldiers withdrawing from major facilities and streets, bringing an end to 61 years of Baath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family dominance.

Before that, on November 27, combat erupted between Syrian regime forces and opposition factions in the western countryside of Aleppo Governorate, allowing the factions to expand their authority over the city of Aleppo and Idlib Governorate. They then conquered Hama, Daraa, Sweida, Homs, and Damascus.
