eXtra named Best Large Company Retail Working Environment in Saudi Arabia
eXtra, Saudi Arabia’s fastest-growing consumer electronics retailer, has been named the best retail working environment among large companies in the Kingdom and fifth overall in a survey completed by the financial and management consultancy, Team One, in cooperation with Al Eqtisadiah newspaper.
The survey identified the top working environments in the country across three categories: large companies, small and medium sized enterprises and government institutions. These rankings were determined through extensive independent research that measured metrics such as overall employee satisfaction, quality of training programs, performance management, and recruitment and employee relations.
Since its founding in 2003, eXtra has placed a strong emphasis on investing in its employees, providing robust training and developing careers. In 2010 alone, eXtra implemented 144 specialized training and career development programs for its employees.
Mohamed Galal, Chief Executive Officer, eXtra, explained why the company placed such a great emphasis on employee development: “We firmly believe that a large part of eXtra’s success comes from the people who work with us. We have nearly 1,700 people throughout the Kingdom working at eXtra and as they learn, gain experience and improve so too does the company.”
An annual internal survey conducted at eXtra this year similarly showed 83 per cent overall satisfaction among employees, marking continued growth since the surveys were introduced in 2007. “We believe that in order to create the ideal working environment we must be effective communicators. We have an open-door policy so all of our employees can voice their needs when and to whom they wish,” said Galal.
Since its founding, eXtra has placed the maintenance of a strong human relations (HR) department at the heart of its business strategy. With continued investment in a wide range of HR programs, open-door policy, regular company-employee meetings, strong bonus and incentive schemes combined with the latest HR self-service systems, eXtra has created a uniquely supportive working environment for its employees.
Currently serving roughly 80 per cent of Saudi Arabia’s population of more than 26 million, eXtra is one of the Kingdom’s top 20 fastest-growing companies, according to recent ranking by the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA). Offering over 12,000 products – including an enormous range of leading international brands – eXtra has more stores and more products than any other consumer electronics retailer in Saudi Arabia.
eXtra was established in Saudi Arabia in 2003 by United Electronics Company (UEC) Commercial Registration number (2051029841), to provide customers with complete shopping experience for consumer electronics and home appliances.
