IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) Holds Women's Accounting Leadership Series in Jordan
IMA®(Institute of Management Accountants) is holding a Women’s Accounting Leadership Series for professionals in the accounting and finance industry across the Middle East. The first edition will take place in Amman, Jordan at the Kempinski Amman Hotel on Monday, April 15, 2019.
“While the women's labor force participation in the MENA region is still low compared to the global average, it is essential to recognize the context and appreciate this leap forward in recent decades and the milestones achieved in terms of gender pay gap and career opportunities,” said Hanadi Khalife, Director, MEA and India Operations at IMA. “The region has witnessed women taking leadership roles across different sectors but there remain challenges across a number of areas.”
The Women's Accounting Leadership Series will bring together female professionals working in finance and accounting and discuss the challenges and issues they face in their careers such as reaching decision-making roles within their organizations.
IMA has invited women leaders who have broken through the glass ceiling in business and government leadership. In Amman, speakers include H.E. Mrs. Suhair Al-Ali, Executive Chairman of the Social Security Investment Fund 2016-2018; Samar Obaid, Partner, MENA Transaction Advisory Services Leader at EY; Rasha Koro, CMA, CFA, Finance Director at liwwa; and Dana Hakuz, CMA, Financial Accounting Manager at Orange Jordan.
Ginger White, CMA, CSCA, current Chair of IMA's Global Board of Directors and the fifth woman to hold IMA's most senior volunteer role, and Sandra Richtermeyer, CMA, CPA, Ph.D., former Chair, IMA Global Board and Member, IMA Emeritus Committee and now Dean at the Manning School of Business at University of Massachusetts-Lowell will be in Amman as keynote speakers and panelists.
“With improved access to education, changing social norms, and technological innovation, women have considerably improved their skill sets, pursuing careers at prominent businesses and reaching management levels. They are ambitiously competing for jobs in the private sector but also starting up their own companies and becoming business owners themselves,” Khalife added.
Research conducted by the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Jordan estimates that the economy of Jordan could increase its GDP by 5 percent, the equivalent of almost US $2 billion if employment occupations were reshuffled between women and men to have a more equal distribution and women were to be fairly paid.
As of 2017, Jordan has a 10 percent quota for women in parliament and a 25 percent quota for local government. Organized by the Jordan Association of Management Accountants, the event is supported by The University of Manchester, Sage, Orange Jordan, and EY.
