Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is secure, but not that secure. That’s at least according to Egyptian news site Al-Ahram. They say they’ve uncovered a new plot against the general turned politician, including–but not limited to–wasting his time in UN meetings.

The article is entitled “Details of external forces’ plan to lay siege to Egypt: working to the political leadership with regional crises and recruiting new terrorist elements.” Al-Ahram claims to have obtained documents detailing several internal and external plots against Sisi that aim to alter Egyptian public opinion in a way against his leadership.
According to Al-Ahram, these plots consist of “taking the political leadership’s time in diplomatic meetings for reason of protocol” as well as “asking international media and prominent journalists to demand interviews” with Sisi and his advisors.
Al-Ahram goes on to cite Sisi’s busy schedule as evidence of this. Indeed, Sisi is set to meet with both Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton today. Sisi will be in New York attending the UN General Assembly.
However, the article doesn’t appear to have been confirmed anywhere else. Mokhtar Awad, who tweeted the article with an explanation in English, says information of the supposed plot is a “conspiracy theory.” Al-Ahram does not specify information about the documents and the other sources in the article either.
Perhaps observers should take note of how long Sisi meets with Clinton and Trump, though–just in case.
