A campaign has been launched to help the unnamed Syrian scientist who appeared in a series of photos from Istanbul, Turkey by Humans of New York (HONY) photographer Brandon Stanton once he arrives in America for resettlement.
The scientist's story of loss inside Syria and hope to still contribute scientific advancements to humanity has already captured the attention of US President Barack Obama, but it turns out plenty more are also listening. On Saturday, Stanton posted an update on HONY's Facebook page saying American actor Edward Norton had reached out wanting to set up a campaign to help the Syrian and his family. Here's the post.

Set up on crowdfunding site Crowdrise, Norton's campaign says it is raising funds tward the scientist's medical bills, the family's living expenses once in the US and his "dream of contributing to the world." The page features the full photo series by Stanton, along with a note from Norton, who says the story moved him "to tears," and asks supporters to prove the US isn't as hostile a place some are making it out to be (Trump ahem).
"If we don’t welcome people like this into our communities and empower his dream of making an impact with his life, then we’re not the country we tell ourselves we are," the actor writes. "Let’s reject the 'anti-human’ voices that tell us to fear refugees and show this man and his family what Americans are really made of."
