Syria is never short of brutality these days. Last week, a video surfaced of a Palestinian youth being beheaded by a rebel group. And on Sunday, Orient Net posted a video showing a Syrian army officer being assassinated in his Damascus home.

The Arabic-language article claims that Tariq Shariba-an officer in an army unit commanded by president Bashar al-Assad’s brother Maher-was killed upon returning home Saturday. The rebel group Saraya Rada’ al-Dalimayn claimed responsibility for the killing on their Facebook page.

In the video, it appears members of the group bludgeoned the sergeant to death. The perpetrators reportedly shouted “this is revenge for our family in Aleppo and Darayya.”

Aleppo is currently under siege by the regime, and being targeted by Syrian and Russian warplanes. The regime has advanced towards Darayya this month as well.

Orient Net claims this is the latest in a series of assassinations of regime figures carried out by the group, including the killing of a security officer in May, also in Damascus.
