ALBAWABA - U.S. President Donald Trump announced via a post on Truth Social on Sunday morning that, after requests from Iran and countries in the Middle East, he has canceled upcoming strikes on Iran, including one ‘big’ devastating attack he threatened earlier on social media.
The parties were asking Trump to hold off on the attacks as a "perimeter" of a deal has been agreed upon, they said. This deal would open the Strait of Hormuz and halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
The attacks Trump threatened before this were set to be “one of the harshest bombing campaigns to date against energy infrastructure targets in Iran”, according to CBS.
Trump emphasized that he was "locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II".
Adding later, after he canceled the attacks, that it was "for the future benefit of the world and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran".
Earlier, Tehran accused Washington of escalating tensions in the area and threatened that any state cooperating with the U.S. or Israel would be “engulfed by the flames of war.
In light of this, the U.S. urged its citizens in the region to be on alert and prepared to leave 'should there be escalations' in the region, adding:
"Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise caution and heightened vigilance and should be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions."
