The International Chamber of Commerce in Qatar (ICC Qatar) launched its new strategy to reinforce its powerful presence as the main representative of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) on a national level, at a dinner ceremony sponsored by HSBC, Bank Middle East Limited, Qatar and QAPCO, on Tuesday May 24, at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.

The event, attended by H.E Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Bin Mohammed Al-Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry (QCCI) and ICC Qatar, Remy Rowhani CEO of ICC Qatar along with QCCI and ICC Qatar board members, officials and high-profile personalities from the business community, shed the light on ICC Qatar’s new strategy and its importance.

H.E Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Mohammed Al-Thani, Chairman of QCCI  and ICC Qatar, delivered the welcome speech, thanked ICC’s board members and sponsors HSBC Qatar and QAPCO for their support and re-emphasized ICC Qatar’s crucial role in developing Qatar’s business sector.

“ICC believes, like Qatar does, in the power of global commerce and trade. Its main objective is to promote global trade and through this promote global cooperation within the business community, as it strives to support global prosperity and offer a wide selection of services and practical tools to facilitate business in Qatar and around the world,” Sheik Al-Thani said while addressing the audience.

As part of its new and up-scaled strategy, ICC Qatar will boost local and international investments in the country. It will serve the local business community by providing opportunities for all the business sectors to be part of the world economic practice, such as the World Chambers Congress, which will be hosted in Mexico this year and in Qatar in 2013.

“Training will take up a big part of ICC Qatar’s new strategy. This is why QCCI has just recently joined hands with City & Guilds -a UK Based vocational training institute, to set up a Doha-based vocational centre to enable national talents to obtain skills-based qualifications in a wide range of industries,” he added.

During the event, Remy Rowhani, CEO of ICC Qatar talked about ICC Qatar’s new strategy, its improvements and major developments. He went on to explain to the attendees the benefits of joining ICC Qatar and provided them with an exclusive opportunity to join the growing membership of ICC Qatar.

“As the official representative of ICC for the State of Qatar, ICC Qatar provides its members with ongoing support and unlimited business and trade opportunities locally, regionally and internationally. As well as, it provides its members with access to an exclusive network from the business and trade sectors, this why I highly encourage the business community here, who are looking forward to widen their scope and benefits, to join ICC Qatar,” Rowhani said.

Rowhani continued, “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate H.E Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Bin Mohammed Al-Thani, on one of his many recent achievements, which is being appointed as a member of the ICC G20 Advisory Group. Sheikh Khalifa, being now a member is considered one of the 15 elite businessmen who are chosen worldwide for this position, this is a great honor and achievement for ICC Qatar and Qatar as well.”

The G20 Advisory Group policy work has been shaped to concentrate on the 2011 agenda of G20 issues as set by the host country France, as well as on priorities the Advisory Group wishes to see addressed.

Global business input on these issues will be delivered to G20 leaders starting at the government “Sherpa” level in the lead-up to Cannes. ICC will unveil these policy positions as the meetings unfold.

Philip Kusharschi, Business Development Manager of ICC gave a presentation on the history and the various services provided by ICC, which will be reflected in ICC Qatar as well.

“The International Chamber of Commerce serves the business community on different levels and in many ways, from providing training courses, dispute resolution to creating business policies that guarantee prosperity and development to this sector, while making sure they are altered to meet the needs of its members,” he said.
