New international sanctions against Iran over its nuclear works could lead to confrontation, Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki warned during a visit to Brussels on Wednesday. "There are two options," to resolve the problem, he told an audience at the European Policy Centre think-tank.

"The first is based on cooperation, the other is based on confrontation," he said, according to the AFP. "The resolution" at the United Nations Security Council on imposing new sanctions against Iran "is a basis for confrontation," he warned.

"That is not our preferred option but that's up to other parties who would like to move in that direction," Mottaki added.

Mottaki noted that Iran had no plans of giving up enriching uranium to 20 percent."It's not against the law," said Mottaki, warning that a new UN resolution would "kill" a recent agreement with Brazil and Turkey.
