Kuwait Shell and Kuwait Oil Company invites the public to ‘Seat Belts Save Lives’ campaign

Kuwait Shell and Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) today announced that they will host a Two-days ‘Seat Belts Save Lives’ campaign at Souk Shark from 26th to 27th May 2011.
‘Seat Belts Save Lives’ will feature ‘Seat Belt Convincer’ machine in the mall for members of the public to directly experience a force of a 5-7 mph crash. Over the two days, there will be hourly demonstrations of the machines, as well as staff on hand to provide advice and tips on driving safely and plenty of free give-aways, including pens, literature and CDs.
Ahmed Mouti, Kuwait Shell’s Chairman said: “Seat belts are an important part of modern road safety and they save many lives each year. I would encourage anyone in Souk Sharq to make a point of visiting our stand and experiencing for themselves the difference seat belts make. The purpose behind our campaign is to demonstrate the importance of seat belts. Most people believe that seat belts aren’t quite necessary; however, statistics showed that 63% of people killed in car accidents were not wearing seat belts! ”
“Researches have proven that people in the age of 16 to 25 years are overwhelmed by their driving abilities, thus, vulnerable to a car crash. At Shell, road safety is considered one of our priorities, hence, we advise people to buckle up to reduce injuries on the roadway, in case of car accidents. We invite everyone who is interested to visit our stand to have a clearer understanding of the importance of seat belts to our lives.” added Mr. Mouti.
‘Seat Belt’s Save Lives’ will be open from 10 AM to 10 PM, Thursday and Friday 26th - 27th May. The stand is located beside Sultan Center.
Mr Saeed Al-Shaheen KOC’s Well surveillance group manager commented: “KOC is committed to encouraging safe practices on Kuwait’s roads. By bringing this unique campaign to Kuwait, we hope that people will have better understanding of the value of seatbelts in helping to save lives and encouraging responsible driving behavior.”
The campaign is part of Shell’s and KOC ongoing corporate social responsibility strategies to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding, discouraging the use of mobile phones while driving, and the importance of using seatbelts and child restraints at all times.
Statistics from Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior showed that in 2010, up to August, 224 people were killed and 445 were injured in traffic accidents. During the same period, 33 thousand traffic accidents took place and 2.25 million traffic violations were registered. Speeding topped the list with 1.14 million violations.
