The Egyptian Ministry of Culture has decided to cancel this year’s Cairo International Film Festival. The ministry noted that the festival will resume as scheduled next year.
The decision is based on the current unstable economic conditions in Egypt. In addition, the second half of this year Egyptians will be preoccupied with parliamentary and Presidential elections, as well as the formation of a new committee to amend the constitution.
The Minister of Culture has requested the board of directors of the Cinema National Center to create a vision for the different film festivals and find ways in which they can be financed.
The Cairo Film Festival was first launched 35 years ago in 1976 and since then has been considered to be one of the most important film festivals around the world.
