Several media agencies have begun publishing the news of the upcoming wedding of Lebanese singer Elissa to Muslim Libyan businessman, Tareq Al Khayooni. News of the couple’s involvement began when the two were seen together at a fashion show in Paris for Lebanese fashion designer Ellie Saab, in addition to Elissa celebrating Tareq’s birthday with him.
According to the London based Elaph, many believe that Elissa has contradicted herself with the decision to marry Tareq, since she had always stated that she would never marry anyone who is not Lebanese and a Christian. The surprise came when she allegedly changed her ideals and decided to marry for love despite cultural and religious differences.
On her part, Elissa denied rumors of an upcoming wedding, but did not deny the existence of an intimate relationship between her and Tareq.
Elissa is not the first singer to have the media interfere with her personal life. In the past, Lebanese singer Najwa Karam was subject to attacks by the media over her wedding to producer Yousif Harb, who holds different religious beliefs and came from a different cultural background. At the time, Najwa’s family strongly opposed her relationship with Yousif. The two had gotten married despite all objections from family members, but ended up getting a divorce a few months into the marriage.
