Summaya Al Khashab said that her excessive weight gain is due to an illness
requiring her to take doses of Cortisone. The medication has had a series of
adverse side-effects, she said.
Summaya also said that
she has been able to lose some of the weight, since her health is improving.
The actress said she had to continue filming while on the medication to ensure that the dramas she was working on were complete in time for airing during the current month of Ramadan.
Some critics say Summaya should be commended and not criticized by the press, as has been the case.
