A number of protesters in Egypt’s Tahrir Square had opposed the presence of Egyptian actress Mina Shalabi between during the demonstrations held this past Friday due to the fact that she did not take part in the protests during the Egyptian January 25 Revolution. Mina had also frustrated protesters by her attempt to film scenes from her upcoming film, in which she plays the role of a revolutionist, and her comments to protesters saying: ‘isn’t it enough I agreed to be photographed with you’.
A number of people have made requests to director Yusri Nas Allah on his official page on the social network Twitter, to replace Mina with another actress for his upcoming film about the events of the Revolution. People argued that the role should be played by an actress who believed in the Revolution and not one who was opposed to it, which was the case with Mina.
On his part, Yusri explained that Mina was in Tahrir Square to film a scene for his upcoming film that portrays the conditions in Egypt since the revolution up to the coming presidential elections.
Yusri stated that the atmosphere in Tahrir Square was tense and many rejected the presence of Mina among them due to her undefined position towards the revolution and the former regime of Mubarak.
The director stressed that Mina was honored to be among protesters and she wanted to show them that she supports their cause.
