ALBAWABA - Carbs, such as bread, rice, pasta, and fruits, are a staple in many people’s diets. They provide energy for your body and are essential for maintaining good health, so it can be easy to consume too much.

However, overconsuming carbs can have negative effects on your body. Here are some signs you’re eating too many carbs that you should be aware of:

1. Weight gain

Carbs are a source of energy for the body. If you’re eating more carbs than your body needs, the excess carbs get stored as fat. This can lead to weight gain, especially if you’re not getting enough exercise.

2. Increased hunger

 

Carbs are broken down into glucose, which is used by the body for energy. However, when you overconsume carbs, your blood sugar levels spike, and then rapidly crash causing you to feel hungry again. This makes it difficult to resist high-carb and calorie foods, leading to overeating and weight gain.

When you overeat carbs, your body releases insulin to control your blood sugar levels. This causes your blood sugar levels to drop, making you feel sluggish and tired. There is some level of irony that consuming too much of something that gives you energy can cause the opposite effect. 

4. Brain Fog

Carbs are not just an energy source for the body but also for the brain. The brain uses glucose as its primary source of fuel. When you consume too many carbs, your body releases insulin, which causes a drop in blood sugar levels. This can lead to brain fog, making it difficult to concentrate.

Consuming carbs causes your body to produce more insulin, which results in an increased need for water. This can cause dehydration and lead to more thirst. Drinking more water can help, but it’s best to moderate your carbs consumption to avoid these issues in the first place.

6. Mood Swings

Carbs affect the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, which affects your mood. Over-eating carbs can cause your serotonin levels to spike and then rapidly drop, leading to mood swings and irritability.

And lastly, overconsuming carbs can lead to digestive issues such as bloating, gas, and constipation since carbs are broken down into sugars, which ferment in your gut.
