1. Getting Started

What room in your home would be the most viable impromptu work out area? You only need a few feet of space so don’t be afraid to slide some furniture around if you have to.

When you have a spot in mind, see if you have some blankets or spare bedding around that you’re comfortable setting on the floor and getting dirty. You’re going to want a little cushion to sit and lie on.

For the ideal workout padding consider buying a yoga mat.

2. Cardio

If you’re looking to burn fat, increase your stamina and build lean muscle then try out some of these cardio exercises.

For something more challenging go for burpees or a circuit of exercises. For example, throughout a three-minute round, try continuously doing 10 pushups then 10 sit-ups then 10 squats until time is up.

3. Upper body

Push-ups are a great bodyweight exercise you can do just about anywhere. Standard push-ups, diamond push-ups and wide push-ups are great to get started with and will isolate different muscle groups.

For better results try timing yourself on your phone rather than counting the number of reps you do. For example, do one-minute of sit-ups followed by a thirty second break, then get back to it with another one-minute round of Russian twists.

As things get easier just lower the rest time and increase the number of rounds to keep the exercise equivalent to your ability.

5. Lower body

Air squats will boost your endurance while strengthening your glutes, quads and hamstrings. To isolate your calf muscles do calf raises with just your bodyweight or while holding weights if you have them.

And similar to your core exercises, try these lower body exercises to timed rounds rather than counted reps. It will help keep your at-home workout to a consistent pace and difficulty.
