Daesh's (ISIS) self-declared caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi made his first audio appearance since May earlier this week, when the militant group released a clip purporting to be his voice.
The message, which came one day after Christmas and called on on all Muslims to 'join the fight,' sounded pretty much like most of the militant group's messages generally do: condemnation of the West, news about how "well" the caliphate is doing and the need for Muslims to heed the call to arms.
The audio clip made one of its first appearances on Twitter when it was translated by an Arab Spring activist from the UAE named Iyad El-Baghdadi. Here's his original tweet (you can read the whole string through the link):
ISIS leaders: We urgently call upon every Muslim to join the fight, especially those in the land of the two shrines (Saudi Arabia), rise.
— Iyad El-Baghdadi (@iyad_elbaghdadi) December 26, 2015
But things didn't exactly go according to plan, with Muslims taking to Twitter with quips about how they'd rather be doing pretty much anything else.
And while Baghdadi's call shouldn't come as much of a surprise by now, the brilliant reaction from Muslims around the world is a pretty solid reminder that perhaps the best way to fight Daesh's extremism is to point out how ridiculous it is in the first place.
Have a look at some of the responses below, via Twitter.
