A Reddit thread us a delightful example of a pretty fun Islamophobic fail this week, when one user uploaded what they said was a copy of a sign that showed up in a town in northern Italy.
The user said these posters had popped up all over the city, and wanted a translation of the Arabic scrawl.
Does it look a little stange? It could be because, although it's apparently a warning meant to say 'Foreigner you are not welcome,' it actually doesn't say, well, anything at all.
As Redditors were quick to point out, there's a number of problems here, but let's start with the obvious one — Arabic, kids, is written from right to left. Secondly, Arabic letters are linked togeter to form a word, while this sign separates each character. Without the link, they are sounded out as individual sounds, not words.
Ask any agnaby (foreigner) — Arabic is not an easy feat. But these kinds of fails are normally reserved for bad tattoos instead of Islamophobic warnings. Still, Redditers thought the new trend was pretty entertaining.
Here are some of our favorites.
Other users doubted the poster's authenticity. Which begged the question — was Reddit just used for proofreading this catastrophe before it actually did turn into a poster?
Finally, we present the opus magnum of this Reddit thread. And a good reminder that, much like tattoos, xenophobic slurs written in a foreign language should probably get a quick spell check.
