Ahmed Massad, Jordanian comedian, actor, and filmmaker, has found himself facing possible jail time after being charged with "Contempt of religion and offending religious sentiments" according to Jordanian news outlets and his personal Facebook page.

Massad is no stranger to the public eye. He has appeared in numerous videos with the Jordanian Roya TV channel with some of the most well-known figures in Jordanian media, and his Facebook and Youtube channel have hundreds of thousands of followers. He is known for his sharp wit and sarcastic humor, often taking aim at parts of Jordanian society he sees as "backwards", such as sexual harassment or how easily Facebook users can be tricked by fabricated images and videos.

A glance at one of Massad's videos reveals his animated and energetic style of comedy, as he sets his sights on oft-overlooked or taboo topics. This is the third time that Massad has been forced to appear in court for his videos, with proceedings beginning next week.

The Jordanian Constitution mentions freedom of speech and expression, but holds religion and personal beliefs to be sacred and protected from offensive speech.
